Developer Mode

Why do you need to put your Oculus or Pico device into developer mode?

Because of the way the software was designed on these devices, in order to install external apps, not found in the store, these device must first be put into developer mode.


Oculus/Meta Device Developer Mode

  1. You can either follow the directions found here
  2. Or you can message info@vxr.direct.com with your Oculus/Meta username and we will help you establish your account as a developer account
  3. After accepting the invite to the developer group we will send, sign in to the account in the Meta Quest app on your mobile device or PC
  4. Click on Menu in the bottom right corner then click on Device
  5. Select your device from the dropdown at the top
  6. From the list of Headset Settings below, select Developer Mode
  7. Toggle Developer Mode on (the switch will appear blue when toggled on)
  8. Plug in the headset to your computer using a USB port. You should see a prompt to “Enable USB Debugging” or “Allow Access to Data”. Click Ok

NOTE: To check if these steps were done correctly, in the VXR.Direct app on your computer, click the Devices tab at the top. Your device should be displayed as Authorized





Pico Device Developer Mode

  1. On the headset go into Settings and click About Device
  2. Click 8 times on the top item, PUI Version. The Developer Options menu option will now appear on the right
  3. Go into More Settings menu and click on Developer Options
  4. Find the checkbox for USB Debugging and check it
  5. Plug your Pico device into your computer with a USB cable
  6. In your device, it should ask you to enable USB Debugging Say “Yes”
  7. Under Mobile Devices in VXR.Direct, it should display your Pico as “Authorized”

NOTE: To check if these steps were done correctly, in the VXR.Direct app on your computer, click the Devices tab at the top. Your device should be displayed as Authorized

What’s the difference?

A mobile headset is a headset that operate without being connected to a computer. Examples of this are the Meta Quest 2, HTC Vive Focus and Pico Neo 3. On the other hand, a tethered headset requires a computer to run content. Examples of this are the Oculus Rift and the HP Reverb G2.
